Students are asked to identity the type of reasoning used in their chain of reasoning in Step 5 as Authority, Theory, or a type of Logic. The types of logic are further subdivided into sub-types such as Analogy, Correlation, Cause-Effect or Generalization. The type(s) of reasoning used can be indicated with the letter(s): Authority (A), Theory (T), Generalization (G), Analogy (AN), Correlation (C), Cause-Effect (CE). The teacher guides students through a discussion of what each type of reasoning is, and how one or more types were used in the chain of reasoning.
The teacher reviews the definitions for labeling Authority, Theory, or a type of logic such as Analogy, Correlation, Cause-Effect, or Generalization.
